Paper straws have their advantages in environmental protection, but there are also some disadvantages.
Environmental advantages
Easy to decompose and reduce pollution: Paper straws can decompose quickly in the natural environment and will not exist for a long time like plastic straws, thereby reducing environmental pollution.
Reduce the use of plastic: Using paper straws can reduce the use of plastic straws, thereby reducing the burden on the earth and protecting the environment.
Environmental disadvantages
Environmental impact during production: Paper straws are expensive, and trees need to be cut down during production, which produces a large amount of sewage and has a certain impact on the environment.
Incomplete degradation: Although paper straws can be degraded, many paper straws have polyethylene or polypropylene coatings on their surfaces. These coatings cannot be completely degraded, increasing the environmental burden.
Contains harmful chemicals: Some paper straws contain PFAS (perfluorinated and polyfluoroalkyl substances), which are potentially harmful to human health and may increase the risk of cancer.
